About
My Journey To Becoming A Vocal Coach.
I have been teaching as a private vocal coach since 2019.
Starting with one student every week, I now teach multiple students across the UK through online & in person sessions, specialising in Metal, Rock, Pop, Jazz and Musical Theatre. I have trained for many years as a vocalist, both in education, graduating BIMM Brighton with a 1st class BA (Hons), and privately - including Rock School grading with Sophie Stott and ABRSM with Elly Barnes MBE FCCT (Educate & Celebrate).

I have been performing as a professional metal vocalist, under the name Katja Macabre for several years and started my career as a performer over 20 years ago, in musical theatre, young choirs and as part of youth dance company Cando 2. I have also worked as a voice actor and can be heard in indie video games, English dubs of foreign films and as the voice of Like Nastya's UK dub in several episodes.
Using a mix of clean and distorted vocals, I have released many singles & 2 EPs, as well as being a featured artist on multiple releases.
In 2019 I founded the Metal-Goes-Vintage vocal company, Dead Dolls and have been performing as a professional session and dep. vocalist for many bands, including Eclipse Machine & Demure, as well as many feature band projects such as The Laughing Dark, Piercing Lazer & Bergfried.

My teaching method focuses on Student Centred Learning using elements of breath work and positive reinforcement.
As someone who is neurodiverse I understand how important it is to create a safe and nurturing learning environment.

As a child I struggled in education, as I found that my teachers were unable to cater to my needs as an individual, and my biggest wish in any learning environment, as well as school and college, was that I had someone to guide me every step of the way, with a tailored curriculum that would work with me and my strengths.

This is the approach that I have taken towards my students, with a system that focuses on your abilities and shines a positive light on them as well as the elements you may struggle with.

My lessons consist of a flexible lesson structure, but moves between the choice of theoretical knowledge or practical sessions (sometimes even a mix of both), where I can act as a facilitator for you, the students, to have a safe environment to play with the range of your voice, understand how the body needs to work alongside it to keep it safe & to put things in place so that you can take good care of the one voice you have.

I specialise in having a deep understanding of vocal health and anatomy which offers a unique perspective on the things we, as vessels for the voice, should know.

Over my years as a Vocal Coach, I have seen the benefits of maintaining a healthy voice - both from my own perspective and from that of my incredible students, and this is something I strive for with every student who comes my way.
